Dr. Sandra Reeve is:

Move into Life is the name Sandra has given to her distinctive approach to ‘ecological movement’. This practice takes place primarily in natural environments and in both historical and sacred sites.
Move into Life draws on Buddhist mindfulness practice (Satipatthāna), 20 years’ work with Javanese Amerta movement artist Suprapto Suryodarmo, Sandra’s early work with Jerzy Grotowski and physical theatre, and her recently awarded PhD on the subject of ‘The Ecological Body’.

Move into Life teaches a kind of movement meditation which can be practised by anyone in daily life. It calls for awareness rather than any particular movement techniques and allows and encourages us to become aware of movement habits which match our more familiar patterns of thinking, communication, relationship and behaviour.

Expanding our movement vocabulary and changing our movement habits can help us to relax our ‘fixed sense of self’, to become aware of – and change – the habits of a lifetime, and to allow the emergence of a sense of presence and spontaneity with others in the environment.

In terms of autobiographical performance, Move into Life principles encourage the transformation of ingrained movement patterns through performance . These patterns stimulate the theme or topic of the performance, which is then explored through movement, scored and transposed within a co–created, multi-disciplinary environment: video, photography, text and music . Move into Life favours environmentally specific performance which can create an immersive situation for the audience.

As well as being used by many of her students in daily life, Move into Life principles and practice are also widely used professionally by psychotherapists; drama, arts, music , dance and environmental therapists; occupational therapists; performers, dancers and visual artists. Move into Life offers a foundation in environmental embodiment for those working together in interdisciplinary art forms.

Details of Move into Life public workshops (run in Dorset, Gloucestershire, Dublin and Western Ireland), further information on Sandra’s performance work, recent articles and extracts from her Practice as Research PhD can all be found at www.moveintolife.co.uk
